We have had a pretty good storm blow through, leaving quite a bit of rain (I forgot to ask my mom, the "official" rain tracker, this morning what the count was). The radio news said that the end of the fire season would be declared on Friday. Whew! After such a dry year it's nice to know that's behind us until next Summer. As I write this, however, the sun is shining through the clouds and it's quite beautiful light.
This afternoon is the open house at the new grammar school and partly refinished middle school. I'm headed there after I leave here in a few minutes. It's a beautiful new school and from what I've heard, both the students and the teachers love it.
People are still coming around and asking about real estate. It was pouring, really pouring rain and lots of wind yesterday, and I still had several people peering in the windows at the listings displayed there and I had a couple come in and we took a look at a property here in town. Today I had a gentleman come in and let me know he's doing private money mortgages, specializing in rehab work, which can be a blessing if you are buying something that doesn't qualify for a traditional loan or an FHA loan.
I've been working on the Coastal Mendocino Association of Realtor's installation dinner this year. As part of our dinner we do a benefit raffle and silent and live auctions. This year we will donate the proceeds to The Children's Fund and Project Sanctuary, two wonderful local resources for our community. I have been amazed, given the bad news we get inundated with about our economy, how generous the donors have been.
This weekend we have our own local Circus, like a Cirque du Soleil, performing in Fort Bragg at Cotton Auditorium. Advance tickets are only $15 and you get an evening of song, dance, acrobatics and clownery. I'm also taking advantage, thanks to a friend, of our local theater and I will be enjoying Euridyce as well this weekend. What a wonderful community we have with so many different cultural events!
I hope you are staying dry and I hope you make it out to some of these local events!
