Lots to do!

A few days ago we had unseasonally warm weather - it was 80 degrees on my front deck.  I was able to open all the windows in the house and air it out; it was lovely.  Today and the past few days we've much more normal March weather.  Cooler mornings - it was 44 this morning at 7am at my house - days up to about 60 degrees and a bit of a breeze that is chilly.  I always think of March as being windy - my least favorite time of year for that reason.  On the other hand, the grass is starting to grow.  I don't have to feed my horse hay any more as there's enough nutrition in the grass now; the pony, on the other hand, has to be muzzled with a special grazing muzzle to keep her from overdosing on all that good stuff.  The grass around the house needs cutting and I hear people mowing and running weed cutters everywhere I go.  Spring is definitely here, despite the forecast for rain and hail tonight!

This weekend brings one of my favorite events - the Elk Rummage Sale put on by the Greenwood Civic Club.  The sale is Saturday and Sunday (you can drop stuff off for the sale today and tomorrow) and last year I got some great things - a nice set of sheets, a brand new handbag, a couple of kitchen gadgets and a couple of novels.  There's very good food to eat, so you can shop, then recover with a cup of coffee or tea and a snack.  The Civic Club is a wonderful local organization that returns to the community all that it makes at this sale and through other ventures; they support the Elk Volunteer Fire Department, they support the local Elk website, www.elkweb.org, they provide scholarships to local kids and they support the Greenwood Community Center in several ways, one large one being funding the Children's Program each summer.

Also happening this weekend in Mendocino is K-12 Festival of the Arts in the Arts Building at the new K-8 school; there will be musical performances by several different school groups.  This event starts at 1pm on Saturday.

The General Knowledge and Trivia Quiz has started up again in Anderson Valley.  It is now being held at Lauren's Restaurant in Boonville and starts at about 6:45pm on Thursday evenings.  There won't be a Quiz this week but it will resume again on April 1st.  I missed the past two weeks (one during my New York trip) but did make it to the inaugural event and it was a blast.  Lauren's food is always very good, fresh, some local and some organic.  On Thursday evenings the Peanut Butter and Jam band also practices at Lauren's starting around 9pm, so you can stay after the Quiz and listen or dance to some great jazz.

I hope to see you at some of these local events!
