Walking in Boonville

I felt a bit of Britain on Friday afternoon when a couple of British friends came over for "high tea" - pots of a special a special Twinings release just for the occasion, a white tea with a hint of bergamot and rose petals, cucumber sandwiches, cookies shaped like teapots and decorated with Union Jacks and sundry other biscuits (cookies to the rest of us) and a delicious white cake encircled in a ribbon decorated with more Union Jacks - and a few hours of watching William and Kate get married from recordings made early that morning.  We ooohed and aahed over the various dresses and hats, laughing quite a bit at some of the more perverse creations atop some women's heads.  We loved the maple trees in the Abbey and were delighted with Kate's gown and the beauty and pageantry of the whole event.  We probably watched five or six hours worth of programming, with my guests feeling a tidbit homesick not being there with the crowds in London. We have a small contingency of British here in Anderson Valley; for me personally, as an anglophile, a wonderful edition to the community.

Another event I attended this weekend was the Boontling Classic 5K walk/run.  I attended as a walker as I've never been much of a runner.  It was a glorious day, warm and without the cool breeze we've had the week previous.  I joined two good friends and we kept up a good brisk pace throughout - good enough for the male in the group to win a ribbon in the male walker's category!  Too many female walkers for my other friend and I to get ribbons.  We didn't beat my time (44 minutes) for the walk that I'd hoped to do, but at least we equaled it and I'm happy with that as I'm several years older now than when I last was able to attend the Classic.

I was also in town Saturday for a few hours and the place was hopping.  There were loads of old times cars parked all around and driving through.  The Farmer's Market in front of Lauren's was bustling and I was able to catch up with a few friends there, and there was the Unity Club's Wildflower Show bringing in a lot of people as well.  It's that time of year, when the weather turns warm and people want to get out and about.  It's also the number one time of year for people to buy property, so if you've been thinking of putting your place on the market, now's the time.
